But Nikki hasn’t completely left behind the virtual in this new body of work. Instead, she uses her deep knowledge of 'the digital' to create templates for the work on her iPad and MacBook - single brushstrokes or assemblages of unique marks made in Procreate are then painstakingly recreated as mosaics. As a result these distinct sculptures and wall reliefs are both virtual and physical at the same time. An ephemeral throwaway piece of design is transformed into an object of noble permanence using techniques borrowed from art history.
