A day of inspirational speakers, networking and celebration of Mosaic Art

King’s College London,
Waterloo Lecture Theatre,
Waterloo Campus,
Stamford Street,
London SE1 9NH

This year’s annual Forum is fast approaching and it promises to be a fantastic opportunity for you to learn new skills, network with fellow mosaicists and hear from inspirational speakers from across the world.

It will be held from 24-26 October in the heart of London’s South Bank and is designed to open a window wide to further study and better creative practice, giving insights into the aesthetic, legal and financial status quo of mosaic. This year’s larger venue will give you greater opportunity to meet old and new friends over lovely catering, shopping at the Mosaic Market, lectures, forums, courses, pop-ups, visits, projects and exhibitions.

This year’s accomplished and inspiring speakers will engage, enlighten, and inform you. We are opening a window wide to further study and better creative practice, giving insights into the aesthetic, legal and financial status quo of Mosaic.

Speakers on Saturday, 25 October, will include Luciana Notturni, founder of Ravenna’s Mosaic Art School, who will talk about techniques, rules and methods, and their importance in making contemporary mosaic. Norma Vondee, President of BAMM, will discuss how to maintain the creative core, and Laurel True will share how she used the medium of mosaic as a tool for social action in “The Global Mosaic Project”.

Tickets cost £35 for BAMM members and £45 for non-members. Find out more and buy them online at: http://tickets.bamm.org.uk/. You can also watch this short video with highlights from last year’s event: http://youtu.be/TetkR1S10qc

Learn new skills at this year’s mosaic master classes

We’ve also got four mosaic master classes running on Sunday, 26 October, giving you the opportunity to enhance your skills. They’ll be run by internationally renowned mosaic artists Carrie Reichhardt, Laurel True, Lawrence Payne and Luciana Notturni. Laurel’s workshop is already sold out. There are just a few places left on the other workshops (see more about them below), so hurry if you’d like to book one!

  • Carrie Reichhardt’s “Day of the Dead” master class will introduce you to the amazing Mexican Day of the Dead celebration. She will supply a range of her unique printed tiles and may be able to personalise a tile for you with names or photos printed on it, with enough advance warning. These tiles, and other materials, will be used to make your own Sugar Skull Mosaic; a mosaic that expresses something of yourself, a reflection of your spirit, or a way to celebrate the soul of a departed loved one. Suitable for all levels. (Full day workshop; £85 for non-members and £75 for BAMM members)
  • Luciana Notturni’s “Hammer and Hardie Techniques” will be a quick but intense experience on the antique techniques for mosaic-making using hammer and hardie. Luciana will impart her knowledge about how cutting materials with the right tools allows for a wider range of creative choices, and how shape, size and depth of the tesserae can help with creativity. (Half day workshop; £45 for non-members or £35 for BAMM members)
  • Lawrence Payne’s “Roman Mosaics” master class will allow you to create a copy of a Roman mosaic using cut marble tesserae. You’ll learn the rules needed for this work and experience mosaic work as a trade. Choice of figural or geometric patterns. (Full day workshop; £85 for non-members and £75 for BAMM members)
