About eighty members congregated at the Charity Centre in London on 31st October 2009. The day started with the AGM, conducted by John O'Brien, our departing chairman. Apologies were received, minutes and reports were approved, a new committee duly elected, and auditors and bankers re-appointed.
Any other business included a special vote of thanks to John, proposed by Gary Drostle, for all his efforts in bringing BAMM forward and getting us into a sound financial position. We welcomed our new president, Oliver Budd, and Gary Drostle who will be BAMM's new chairman. Business over, we moved into the delights of the day.
A splendid array of mosaic supplies was provided by Arendse of VIVA Mosaics, and Chris of Buckland Books was on hand with a tempting supply of reading matter. Our speakers gave us a mix of information and inspiration.
Jane Muir, who was a speaker at the inaugural AGM, returned after ten years and spoke of design and inspiration - and of the fact that once the beauty of a piece has been appreciated, a deeper and lasting meaning can be sought from the work.
We were delighted that our founding president, Elaine M Goodwin, was there - giving a lively account of a workshop in Egypt that she had been involved in, where the participants made large three-dimensional pieces, some of which were worked on a polystyrene base.
Paul Bull entertained us greatly with tales of working with his father, Brian, and the mosaics produced by the Bull family.
We also had technical advice on packaging from Richard Ashbridge,
ten years of reminiscences in pictures from Bob Field, the raffle and an open debate.
Overall an action-packed day to celebrate our anniversary!
