Introduction

Statement

Julie Vernon produces contemporary mosaics working in a mix of materials from vitreous glass and ceramic through to natural marble and slate.  She often incorporates individual pieces of vintage porcelain or worn down ceramic found washed ashore British beaches. These elements give the work a greater depth with each fragment holding a hidden history or journey of its own.  Inspiration largely comes from nature and in particular the structure, textures and colours of the changing landscape.

As well as exhibiting and selling work Nationally she also works to commission, runs a programme of workshops and gets involved in a wide range of schools and community arts programmes. Her most recent commission - a 5 foot Golden Gromit for Aardman Animations sold at auction for £30,000 raising funds for the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal Charity.
